Spring CLE Schedule
Kentucky; SCR 3.661 on Continuing Legal Education Requirements Compliance and
Certification
(1) Each educational year, every person licensed to practice law in this Commonwealth,
not specifically exempted pursuant to the provisions of Rule 3.666, shall complete
a minimum of twelve and one-half (12.5) credit hours in continuing
legal education activities approved by the Commission. An educational year shall
begin on July 1 and end on the following June 30. All continuing
legal education activities must be completed not later than June 30
of each educational year.
(2) At least two (2) of the twelve and one-half (12.5) credit hours
required shall be devoted to continuing legal education specifically addressing
the topics of legal ethics or professional responsibility. Programs or seminars
or designated portions thereof devoted to legal ethics or professional responsibility
include but are not limited to programs or seminars or designated portions thereof
with instruction focusing on the Rules of Professional Conduct and/or the Rules
of Professional Conduct as they are directly related to law firm management, malpractice
avoidance, attorneys fees, legal ethics, and the duties of attorneys to the judicial
system, public, clients and other attorneys.
(3) Integration of legal ethics or professional responsibility issues into substantive
law topics is encouraged, but shall not count toward the two (2) credit minimum
annual requirement.
(4) A member who accumulates an excess over the twelve and one-half
(12.5) credit requirement may carry forward the excess credits into the two
successive educational years for the purpose of satisfying the minimum
requirement for those years. Carry forward is limited to a total of twenty-five
(25) credits. All excess credits above a total of twenty-five (25) credits will
remain on the member's records but may not be carried forward.
The Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on CLE requires:
" All Ohio lawyers have been permanently assigned to one of two groups based on
the first letter of his or her last name. If your last name begins with a letter
from A through L you must report by the thirty-first day of January of even-numbered
years for the preceding two calendar years. If your last name begins
with a letter from M through Z you must report by the thirty-first day of January
of odd-numbered years for the preceding two calendar years. You must
complete at least twenty-four credit hours of approved continuing
legal education for each two-year reporting period, including the professional
conduct requirement. (Gov. Bar R. X, §3(A)(1)) On January 1, 1998
the requirement was increased to two and one-half (2 ½) hours
of instruction related to professional conduct. "
"Beginning with the report due on January 31, 2000 an attorney
whose last name begins with a letter from A through L must verify
the completion of at least two and one-half (2 ½) credit hours of instruction
related to professional conduct, which includes all of the following: Thirty minutes
of instruction on substance abuse, including causes, prevention, detection, and
treatment alternatives; (substance abuse education)

Sixty minutes of instruction related to the Code of Professional Responsibility;
(ethics education)

Sixty minutes of instruction related to professionalism (including A Lawyer's Creed
and A Lawyer's Aspirational Ideals adopted by the Supreme Court). (professionalism)
Beginning with the report due on January 31, 2001 an attorney whose
last name begins with a letter from M through Z must verify the
completion of the same requirements. (Gov. Bar R. X, §3(A)(B))"
Indiana, Indiana Rule 29 Section 3
" (a) Every Attorney and every Judge of a city, town or Marion County small claims
court, who is not licensed as an Attorney, shall complete no less than six (6)
hours of approved continuing legal education each year
and shall complete no less than thirty-six (36) hours of approved
continuing legal education each Educational Period. At least
three (3) hours of approved continuing legal education in professional
responsibility shall be included within the hours of continuing
legal education required during each three (3) year Educational Period.
Such hours may be integrated as part of a substantive program or as a free standing
program. All credits for a single educational activity will be applied in one (1)
calendar year. No more than twelve (12) hours of the Educational Period requirement
shall be filled by Non Legal Subject Matter Courses.
(b) Attorneys admitted to the Indiana Bar before December 31, 1998, on the
basis of successfully passing the Indiana Bar examination, shall have a grace period
of three (3) years commencing on January 1 of the year of admission and then shall
commence meeting the minimum yearly and Educational Period requirements thereafter.
Attorneys admitted after December 31, 1998, shall commence meeting the yearly and
Educational Period requirements starting on January 1 after the year of their admission
by completing programs designated by the Commission as appropriate for new lawyers."
