Due to a very successful lawyer referral case, NKBA recently received a $9,000
check from a current participant of the program. Participants are required to
remit 10% of all fees over $100 in order to defray expenses of the operation.

CONTINUING EDUCATION
The NKBA presents accredited CLE programs to help attorneys meet mandatory
requirements. It also offers reduces registration fees for the
NKBA-sponsored CLEs. Every March, a free CLE Day is offered for members.
NEWSLETTER
The Lex Loci is a monthly publication, mailed to members. It
informs members of news in the organizations, ongoing activities,
upcoming events, and reports of development in the law. The classified
section is reasonably prices and reaches a highly targeted audience.
COMMITTEES AND SECTIONS
Members may join any of over 20 sections and committees which concentrate in
specific areas of practice. It is a great opportunity to stay informed
about legal developments while meeting attorneys and members of the judiciary
who share an interest in those specific areas of the law. Many sections
initiate and recommend legislation and court procedures designed to improve the
justice system and help lawyers in their practice.
LEGAL DIRECTORY
NKBA annually publishes a pictorial directory of all attorneys practicing in
Northern Kentucky and those Cincinnati attorneys who are members of NKBA.
The directory includes the addresses and telephone numbers of the state and
federal judges and other court personnel in Northern Kentucky as well as county
government officials. The local rules adopted for arbitration are also
printed in the directory.
MAILING LISTS AND LABELS
Another service for members is the preparation of mailing lists or mailing
labels. This is the easiest, and most accurate, way to prepare a mass
mailing to the local bar.
SOCIAL FUNCTIONS
The Association has many social activities throughout the year. The
Holiday Dinner Dance in December and the summer golf outing are but a few of
the events that allow members to develop and enhance friendships with their
fellow attorneys.
DISCOUNTS
Local merchants provide discounts for products and services, many in the area of
professionally needed items. Members are notified of newly added stores
and
provided with the required identification. The list of participating
merchants and services is growing.

LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE
NKBA refers qualified lawyers to local residents who need assistance in choosing
counsel.
NORTHERN KENTUCKY VOLUNTEER LAWYERS
The Northern Kentucky Volunteer Lawyers (NKVL) is a cooperative program between
the NKBA and the Legal Aid Society. Three times as many Pro Bono cases
are handled by the Volunteer Lawyers because of an IOLTA (Interest on Lawyers
Trust Accounts) Grant applied for and received by the NKBA.
JUDICIAL CANDIDATE RATING PROCESS
As a service to citizens, the NKBA coordinates a process that educates the
public about
individuals running for public judicial office. A poll is conducted among
the NKBA membership to rate each judicial candidate. The ratings are
released to the local media.
PUBLIC EDUCATION
*Speakers bureau
The NKBA provides attorneys willing to speak on legal topics to schools,
churches, and community groups.
*Law Day
Annually on May 1st the Association provides community education on
any requested topic to Northern Kentucky schools.
*Cable television show
The NKBA provides speakers for, . Northern Kentucky Magazine,. an Insight
Communications production. Various areas of the law are covered in a question
and answer format

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
*The Northern Kentucky Bar Association plays an active role in maintaining the
integrity of the legal profession. The NKBA helps attorneys stay abreast
of legal developments with CLE seminars and publications.
*NKBA members can learn and grow from the professional expertise of their
colleagues through the specialized sections and committees.
COMMUNICATION
*In Lex Loci orders of the court are published monthly. The
newsletter monitors recent decisions of the Kentucky Supreme Court and the
Kentucky Court of Appeals in cases arising in Northern Kentucky. It also
publishes verdicts from area Circuit Courts. The 6th District
Supreme Courts Justice writes an article, and the 6th District
Kentucky Courts Appeals contributes information.
*The pictorial legal directory is an essential reference. It is found in
almost every office and courthouse in Northern Kentucky.
